Half-up braided crown
Whenever we did hair tutorials in the past, we got tons of comments requesting curly hair and short hair tutorials. So we've put together four new posts—two for curly hair and two for short hair. Thanks for the encouragement! Here, my hair-stylist friend Reagan, who has gorgeous curls, shows how to do a half-up braided crown. Here are her steps...Read More >

Motherhood Mondays: What family traditions do you have during the holidays?
What are your family traditions around the holidays? When we were growing up, my parents would light angel chimes at the dinner table, and the heat from the candles would make the angels spin around and ring the bells. That little "ding, ding, ding" sound still makes me feel so warm and cozy...
Toby is two-and-a-half years old, so this is the first holiday that he'll really understand. I've been thinking so much recently about the value of rituals, and I'd love to create some for our family. So angel chimes are the very first holiday tradition we're starting with him.
Does your family light angel chimes? (Apparently, angel chimes are actually Swedish, but they were introduced to America about fifty years ago.) What other holiday family traditions do you have? A big Christmas Eve dinner? Homemade stockings? Super spiked egg nog? I'd love to hear—and get ideas!
(Many thanks to our friend Alpha Smoot for taking photos)

Gold nails
Have you ever worn gold nail polish? It's such a pretty color for the holidays (and New Year's Eve!), and I love that even if you're wearing pajamas, this nail polish makes you feel celebratory. I'm a big fan of West End Wonderland (and if you take a bottle home, you could do family manicures on Christmas morning:) Thoughts? Would you wear it?
P.S. Navy nails and galaxy nails.

How to wear a beanie
I look terrible in hats. I have a big head (always have), and hats just make it look bigger. But my friend Kendra has a simple trick for making winter hats look cool...

Motherhood Mondays: DIY teepee for a child
How inviting is this lace teepee? Since lots of readers loved the teepee in Abbey's apartment, we figured we'd share an easy way to make one yourself. Wouldn't it be a fun place to cuddle up, take a nap and read books? Here are the instructions...

Personalized memory game
Pinhole Press, my friends' company which makes beautiful photo gifts, just came out with a personalized memory game! It's really easy to make: You just choose 12 favorite photos (of friends, family, pets, vacations, whatever you'd like), and Pinhole puts them on thick cards with graphic backgrounds. I'm looking forward to playing it with our family over the holidays. Wouldn't it make a wonderful gift?

Motherhood Mondays: Braided princess crown
When school starts in September, little girls everywhere ask their moms for cool hairstyles. So I thought it would be fun to feature four hair tutorials for girls this month—one every Monday! My friend Reagan of Hairdresser on Fire was the hair stylist, and seven-year-old Ella was our beautiful model. Here are Reagan's steps, if you'd like to try...
The only thing cuter than a little girl with Heidi braids, is a little girl with a ribbon in her Heidi braids.
Prep: You'll need two hair elastics (I like Goody's clear ones) and a few bobby pins. You'll also need a ribbon to braid into the hair; it's best to leave the ribbon quite long so that it can be cut to your preference after the style is complete.
1. Part the hair down the middle into two equal sections.
2. Take your first section, and split it into three equal sections.
3. Place the center of the ribbon against the back of the head, and add the ribbon into the center parting.
4-5. Braid (with the ribbon included) and secure with an elastic.
6. Repeat on the other side.
7. Pull each braid up to the top of the head, tucking the tails underneath each other and pinning in place.
8. Tie the ribbon into a bow. (Bow would also look mighty cute worn off-center.)
Try your hardest to not hug and squeeze her cuteness too much or she'll be late for school!
Adorable! Thank you so much, Reagan! xoxo
P.S. And grown-up hair tutorials...
