Half-up braided crown

Whenever we did hair tutorials in the past, we got tons of comments requesting curly hair and short hair tutorials. So we've put together four new posts—two for curly hair and two for short hair. Thanks for the encouragement! Here, my hair-stylist friend Reagan, who has gorgeous curls, shows how to do a half-up braided crown. Here are her steps...Read More >

Everlane silk blouses

Do you remember Everlane, the California-based brand that sells perfect T-shirts for $15? Well, they now make silk blouses, with an easy fit and rounded collar. (My tomboy mom would have loved them:) I have the navy one and wear it constantly, and I'd highly recommend them if you're looking for a pretty shirt to wear this year!
P.S. I was wearing the blouse in this photo:)
P.P.S. My favorite shoes.

Sweatshirt dress

Over the past year, I wore this sweatshirt dress ALL the time. It's one of those comfy dresses you can wear year-round, with self-tanner in the summer and wool tights in the winter. It's pretty for the beach, bike rides, romantic dinners and work meetings. I wanted to recommend it, if you're looking for an effortless everyday dress for this coming year.

P.S. Personally, I wore it with these wedges, and these pink flats would look cute.

Do or Don’t: Dark red lipstick

My friend Caroline recently posted a few instagram photos of herself wearing dark red lipstick. How gorgeous and sultry does that color look? It would look beautiful on a winter evening or a date to a cozy restaurant.

The trick is to choose a color that has enough red and isn't so dark that it looks scary. Caroline's color is sold out, but two other fantastic colors are the burgundy MAC Diva (below left), and the black cherry NARS Terre de Feu (below right):
Thoughts? Would you wear dark red lipstick?

Girls: Q&A with the costume designer

On the HBO show Girls—the second season premieres this Sunday!—the characters wear gorgeous, crazy and awkward clothes, depending on the day. Costume designer Jenn Rogien is the mastermind behind it all, so I was thrilled to ask her my 9 most pressing questions. Her answers were eye-opening...Read More >

Little black dresses

This fall, I went to the ballet with my friend Jason and his girlfriend, who was wearing a little black dress with a sleek ponytail and red lipstick. She looked so incredibly chic that ever since then I've been on the hunt for the perfect little black dress. Here are the six pretty ones...
1. Bardot dress.
2. Lace dress.
3. Bow dress.
4. Beaded dress.
5. Pleated dress. (The leopard heels are a fantastic touch.)
6. Lace dress.

Which would you choose? I think I'd go for #1 or #5...

P.S. Hot pink would be fun, too:)

How to choose a vintage engagement ring

Jared from Erstwhile Jewelry is a fifth generation jeweler. His family opened their first jewelry shop in Russia in the 1800s, so "I've been surrounded by the business since I was little," he says. Here, he reveals seven tips for choosing an antique engagement ring...Read More >

Gold nails

Have you ever worn gold nail polish? It's such a pretty color for the holidays (and New Year's Eve!), and I love that even if you're wearing pajamas, this nail polish makes you feel celebratory. I'm a big fan of West End Wonderland (and if you take a bottle home, you could do family manicures on Christmas morning:) Thoughts? Would you wear it?

P.S. Navy nails and galaxy nails.

My beauty routine for dates

What's your typical beauty routine before going on a date? It's funny how loyal people are to their routines; I've had mine since college! The only thing that has changed is that I now use more natural products and pay more attention to ingredients. When I go to dinner with Alex these days, I start...

Foldable Hunter boots

Hunter boots are tomboyishly cool and make your legs look miles long, and royalty swears by them. The only catch? They're hard to pack! Well, Hunter just released their first foldable rain boot, which roll right up into a tiny package, so you can take them on vacations, store them in a drawer or even pop them into your bag on a rainy day. So far, they come in red and black, but green, navy and yellow are coming soon. Cool, right?
P.S. Five great shoes for traveling, and a sweet photo of Princess Diana.

Three holiday outfits

LevisWhen you pack your bags for the holidays, you have to think about what pieces you can mix and match, right? For practice, I styled this red sparkle cardigan three different ways (as you can see in the rotating image above). Here are the outfit descriptions...

Trusty rain boots

For the past few days, everyone in Manhattan has been walking around in rain boots. My trusty pair, above, are these Loeffler Randall booties. The great thing about Loeffler Randall boots is that they look like cool shoes, not clunky rainboots, so you can wear them to work or dinner. And they're small enough to take on trips. I'd highly recommend them. xoxo
P.S. These tall boots are also super cute.

Fall trend: Animal sweaters

I keep spotting pretty women around New York with animals peeking out from underneath their jackets—sheep, foxes, more foxes, owls, birds.. My favorite is this adorable dog sweater, which would be great to wear on fall days with jeans and moccasins.

Thoughts? Would you wear an animal sweater?

P.S. 5 other fall trends.

Pretty cardholder

This beautiful leather cardholder caught my eye this morning. Would be perfect for those times when you don't want to lug your whole bag with you; just pick a couple cards and you're good to go. (I also like how they describe it as "supremely cushy.")

New glasses

Alex always makes fun of me for losing my glasses. I leave them everywhere: the playground, cabs, friends' houses. "Where are my glasses?" must be the line spoken most often in our apartment. (No one ever knows.)

Finally, this summer, I lost my beloved glasses once and for all, and spent a few months blind as a bat. Luckily for me, an adorable reader (below) tweeted me about her newest pair; and I loved them so much, I got the exact same ones. (Thanks, Katie!)

The glasses are from Lookmatic, my favorite online eyewear shop. Thankfully they're affordable (just $95 including the prescription), and you can try them on virtually. Now I just have to hold onto this pair!!
